Hurricane Helene
WRAL Coverage Oct. 2024
On Sept. 27th, 2024, Western North Carolina was nearly wiped off the map by Hurricane Helene. Despite being across the state, and a region out of our coverage DMA, WRAL sent crews to the heart of it all. This compilation are my 5 p.m. newscasts Tuesday Oct. 1st -Oct. 4th.

Special Projects
The amazing thing about broadcast journalism is the reach. In both Richmond, VA and Raleigh, NC I was writing for more than 500,000 and over 1 million TV viewers, respectively. Journalistic writing is more than writing factual copy - but requires an understanding of an audience and expertise of a topic, whatever it may be. People often wonder what a "producer" does. Back in 2019, I had the idea to record myself during a 30 minute 6 p.m. newscast. Producing is many things; writing, visually creative, live-action and fast-decision making, team effort and so much more.
Digital Articles
Journalism in the Modern Day
Local News is far more than writing for TV and broadcast. At NBC12 especially, I was responsible for writing web articles that you can read here. This included posting the articles to social media, like Facebook and 'X" formerly Twitter and even Instagram. While at WRAL I worked closely with the digital team to ensure stories carried across platforms and to all viewers.
